Lesson 6 / Observation drills / Tower palette

Read the trigger.
Watch it happen.

Six short exercises for learning your own setup. No score, arbitrary damage threshold, encounter solution, or claim that somebody has already tested the result for you.

Before the first drill.

Record your subclass, aspects, fragments, weapon versions, catalyst state, armor set, mods, relevant stats, artifact picks, and any activity modifiers. Use a screenshot or your own notes; this page does not read your account.

For a baseline, temporarily deselect the relevant artifact bonuses when the game allows, noting your previous picks. Test the base interaction, then restore and test the artifact effect separately. If you cannot isolate it, mark the result confounded, not verified.

A crowded buff display can hide information. Use energy meters, pickup appearance, health changes, and repeated observations as supporting evidence; absence of one on-screen label is not conclusive by itself.

1 / Verify the recovery trigger.

Do this

  1. Identify one healing source and its condition: for example, Recuperation on Orb pickup or Cowl on a powered melee kill.
  2. After ordinary combat damage, retreat; do not intentionally lower your health for the experiment.
  3. Perform one safe qualifying action while observing health and buffs. Separate it from a second heal or natural recovery as far as practical.
  4. Repeat when no kill/pickup is available. Use your intended fallback rather than forcing danger.

Observe, then decide

Expected evidence: a health change linked to the named condition, not just a defensive buff appearing.

If unclear: natural shield recovery or another heal may confound it. Repeat safely with one source isolated, or record “not verified.”

Adjustment: if recovery cannot start before a kill, add safer cover/pickup access or a suitable non-kill fallback. Recovery troubleshooting.

2 / Trace an Orb from creation to spending.

Do this

  1. Pick one route: a matching weapon Siphon, Heavy Handed, or Reaper with its required sequence.
  2. Perform qualifying multikills/melee kills, or class ability then weapon kill. Allow the mod's current cooldown.
  3. Locate the Orb of Power and collect it only when safe.
  4. Watch the equipped pickup effects and Armor Charge. If a Surge is active, observe charge loss over time.

Observe, then decide

Expected evidence: an actual Orb, then its relevant pickup effect/charge gain; later decay only if your equipped plan causes it.

If missing: check element, weapon type, kill attribution, cooldown, and whether you are already at an applicable cap. Elemental pickups are not the same thing.

Adjustment: restore a dependable weapon Siphon if ability secondary kills are unreliable. Charge and Surge definitions.

3 / Practise the ability input and energy budget.

Do this

  1. Check a charged ability is available and identify the special input, if any.
  2. Practise one sequence: for example, Consecration's slide-melee and airborne second melee, or a charged Vortex.
  3. Watch what energy is spent and which qualifying action returns it. Do not spend the whole reserve before observing one use.
  4. Repeat without the relevant artifact effect, then restore it. Compare with a no-kill window using weapons/cover while waiting.

Observe, then decide

Expected evidence: the intended ability occurs; spend and return match the equipped condition. A partial return is a valid observation, not a failed “infinite” loop.

If missing: check the selected ability/aspect, charged input binding, remaining energy, and current stat-scaled returns.

Adjustment: keep a reserve, improve the relevant recharge range, and use the weapon fallback. Consecration input reference.

4 / Learn the weapon rotation and ammo economy.

Do this

  1. Use the build's compatible three-weapon example; check ammo types and counters after any substitution.
  2. If testing Bait and Switch, damage the same suitable target with all three weapons within the live perk window and watch for activation.
  3. For Auto-Loading Holster, stow the weapon long enough for its actual reload condition, then check its magazine and reserves.
  4. Use a normal short combat sample, switching to Primary when limited ammo is unnecessary. Note starting/ending ammo and whether pickups occurred.

Observe, then decide

Expected evidence: the perk activates after the required sequence; reload moves reserve ammo to the magazine, not free reserves.

If missing: check your actual perk pair, timing, target continuity, empty reserves, and whether a weapon buff expires when stowed.

Adjustment: simplify the rotation or use a less conditional perk while learning. Different enemies and random drops mean one sample is not an ammo benchmark.

Blighted Sunrise rotation: its requested Pyroclastic pair has a verification caveat; this drill does not prove the roll exists.

5 / Audit your counters before harder content.

Do this

  1. Read the activity's required Champion types without launching a difficult test just to find them.
  2. Identify an equipped source for each, its activation condition, ammo/energy need, and a backup.
  3. Inspect weapon counter icons and intrinsic-counter conflicts.
  4. If a suitable Champion is naturally available in familiar low-pressure combat, test at a valid stun opportunity. Otherwise record “tooltip checked; live stun not tested.”

Observe, then decide

Expected evidence: explicit stun confirmation at a valid opportunity, not merely damage or an animation. Re-stun resistance can affect the result.

If missing: check the precise keyword: Unravel versus Unraveling Rounds, Scorch versus Ignition, generic disorient versus Arc Blind.

Adjustment: choose a ready counter rather than one gated behind a Super/Transcendence window you may not have. Counter checklist and distinctions.

6 / Test with fewer kills, then with friends.

Do this

  1. Observe a natural lull or a durable target with fewer easy kills. Do not prolong dangerous combat to manufacture a scenario.
  2. Use weapons and cover while your kill-triggered loop is unavailable.
  3. Join friends in familiar ordinary combat and let everyone play normally. Note whether personal final-blow triggers still happen.
  4. Agree on one complementary adjustment, such as a ranged fallback or a different shared-support role, then repeat.

Observe, then decide

Expected evidence: you remain useful when the preferred trigger is unavailable. Team healing/buffs actually reach the intended allies.

If missing: record kill competition, range/recipient issues, ammo shortages, or control immunity instead of blaming another player.

Adjustment: use a less kill-dependent fallback and complementary jobs. It is acceptable for a strong solo loop to need changes with friends.

A useful observation record.

Copy into your own notes or print:

  • Date, game version if known, activity and modifiers: ___
  • Build, exact item version, catalyst, mods, stats, artifact: ___
  • One trigger being tested: ___
  • Expected evidence: ___
  • What actually happened: ___
  • Result: observed / not observed / confounded / not tested.
  • Single change for the next attempt: ___

The checkboxes on this page are temporary memory aids, not saved test records. They reset on reload. Nothing is uploaded or read from your game account. A checked box is not proof of damage numbers, live-meta performance, or clan validation.
